How to Remove Smart Engine Virus From Your Computer

Smart Engine is a fake antivirus software that provides you with false security warnings on your system. It is a predecessor of My Security Shield that gives out fake updates stating that your system has been infected by a virus.

Once you scan your computer using the Smart Engine, it becomes prey to harmful threats like Trojans and will definitely cause problems with your computer. The interface of this rogue antivirus program is very similar to the original software and it is really difficult to identify which is the legitimate program. If you have a system that is infected by this virus, follow the steps we have listed to remove this from your computer.

Note: We suggest that you backup your registry first before manually removing Smart Engine Rogue Anti-Spyware.

• Delete the following registry entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSSSys.DocHostUIHandler
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run “Smart Engine”

• Delete the following files on your system:

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\853.mof
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\SmartEngine.exe
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\SM17a_2211.exe
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\SME.ico
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\SMYEFE\
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\SMYEFE\SMYEFE.cfg
%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Application Data\17acbd\Quarantine Items
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Smart Engine.lnk
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\Application Data\Smart Engine\
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\Application Data\Smart Engine\Instructions.ini
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\Desktop\Smart Engine.lnk
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\StartMenu\Smart Engine.lnk
%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\StartMenu\Programs\Smart Engine.lnk

• Restart the system.

Take note that that manual removal of Smart Engine Rogue Anti-Spyware is a complicated task and does not always guarantee total removal of the malware, because of the fact that a number of files may be hidden on the system. If you think that you have not completely removed the Smart Engine virus, you may download Malwarebytes antimalware and perform a full scan on your system.
