When turning on my pc, an error message came up stating Isass.exe cannot be found. So I did some research and found that if you use your windows xp cd and do a repair that it might work, now while it was doing a repair the error message has come up again, and now I cannot get it to go. I have no use of the mouse can only use keyboard, and now each and everytime I boot up it goes into restarting installing windows. It won't let me cancel will not let me go anywhere or do anything. At this point all I would like to do is stop the pc from restarting installing windows, and let me do a clean install of windows. I cannot get into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt can't do a system restore, or back to best configuration. It just continues now to restart installing windows hanging on 39 min, and error message. I read that by hitting shift and F10 it will bring me to dos, and yes it does but goes into Cwindows\system32
tried a chkdsk and says will fix upon reboot but goes right by it, and doesn't do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, getting so frustrated... Thanks in advance

You must have an installation CD to run repair options...

The error message that you describe is a windows component message and should not have shown up while you were doing a repair option using an installation CD. For that to happen, you must be trying to do repair through the windows program itself and this cannot be done...or...you are not using the correct CD.

To end the cycle and reformat and reinstall you must set the BIOS boot order to boot to CD as first boot option. Then boot to the installation CD and follow the prompts. Do not use any repair options that may show up. Allow the setup proceedure to finish and then delete the existing windows partition and reformat and install to the same.

I already set the bios up for it to boot up with cd that is actually how I got the repair option going in the first place. The isass.exe error is the problem, it stops the process and creates a pop up. Soon as the computer boots up it just continues with the restarting of the installation of windows, hangs there and doesn't go anywhere, there is no place to exit the program, and ctrl alt del, don't work. Is there something else I can try? I want to stop the restarting of the installation of windows, and move on to just reinstalling it not repairing it. Thanks in advance...

Ultimate Boot CD - Overview

download the Ultimate Boot CD and burn it to CD. Then boot to it. There are harddisc utilities that will allow you to reformat the disc to clean it from any installed operating systems and also allow you to run the diagnostics for the particular brand of harddrive that you have.

Once you have cleaned it and tested the drive reboot using the installation disc...everything should reinstall as it is suppose to!

I just did that and it doesn't matter how I go to restart this computer doesn't matter what disk I have in the disk drive it just goes to restarting installation of Windows Xp, then the isass.exe error message pops up, and it reboots. The pc either hangs on the reinstall or the issas.exe error hangs the pc up I'm not quite sure. It has a 3.5 inch floppy drive, but all the programs are way to big to put on that or else maybe that might boot start into a different mode. Thanks for helping me out here, I appreciate it, if you can come up with anything else keep me posted...

Are you "hitting any key" when prompted to boot to CD? It may be too fast so you must be fast with your fingers as well!

Two things left to try:

1) use an old windows ME boot floppy (since you have a floppy drive)

a) download the file @ Windows ME Boot Disk Download | AllBootDisks - Providing Free Boot Disks from MS-DOS to Windows XP.

click on the "automatic boot "disk file and then select the "WindowsME.exe" file and have a blank...formatted floppy ready and follow the prompts.

b) reset your computer's boot order to boot to floppy drive first and reboot with the disk in the floppy drive. After the set-up has finished there will be an
A:\

type the following then hit enter format c\s
if asked to support large discs answer yes. and then choose fat32 as the file system....when you reinstall the operating system it will reformat to NTSF.

2) Remove the drive from that computer and slave it to another then use disc manager to format the drive.

I am not sure what it is you are doing wrong but I have never seen any windows applications override a boot CD before....the boot CD sets up a virtual drive and has no connection to the actual harddrive as it is set up using memory only by the BIOS....thus the harddrive is not even used till the proper instruction is given to use the harddrive.

There may be one explanation as that you may have a BIOS virus and if so then you had best be looking for a new motherboard or replacing the BIOS chip itself!
