Status1 has some good questions that would need to be clarified... as to whether or not you have windows vista still installed or not.
It would have been nice to know what computer you are using as well as there are some 100 different versions of a sony notebook.
The other questions here would be exactly how are you going about installing XP as a dual boot.....you cannot just go in and install XP as a dual boot. That is not how it is done in reality....whether you have the installation disc or not!
In most cases the installation failed to find a harddrive is because it can't be seen till certain drivers are installed...in windows xp that means that you will need to install the drivers for the sata controller that your computer is using. This must be done by the F6 method that prompts after the "
