Default windows 98se start up problem


a friend has a computer that worked and he changed to a different monitor and it did not start up correctly so he switched back to the original monitor and that did not work what can he do to fix this problem. his computer will not start up in windows it did before he changed the monitor he did not remove any thing such as programs he just unhooked one monitor and hooked up another one and then switched them back it had started up with windows 98 i have the cd but when i put the cd in and turn the computer on it says invalid system disk any help would be appreciated

it would be a good idea to remove any video drivers before changing monitors, then re-install them with the new monitor, as setting (power, display) will be different.
The win98 CD is not bootable, you will need the win98 boot floppy to run the cd.

i,


just as William said, it would always be safer to remove devicespecific drivers before changing things.... Who realy ever does? Anyhow, you can do this after the event:

When starting the PC, keep pressing F8 repeatedly when Windows is starting. This will let you enter the Start-menu. Select Safe mode and Windows should start in VGA-mode. In VGA-mode enter Display settings and reset these to VGA and standard monitor.

Restart the PC and now WIN98/ME should re-discover your graphics-adaptor and monitor and install the relevant drivers.
