Which is better? Me and my friend are planning to buy a new RAM for his comp. So i was wondering wat size of RAM would be good? We are planning to make a server. We are still thinking about it. I would like to have like 3GB to 4 GB of RAM, can anybody plz suggest something else if you guys know. Thanks guys.:) |
Depends on what you want to do with the server, I thing 2 GB should be more than enough for a typical server. |
We just wanted to get a good server first, and then think about wat we are going to do. We are mainly thinking about starting our own forum hosting or something using forums. |
As Sami said 2GB of RAM should be plenty for what you need it for, but as they say the more RAM the better. I would buy a board with the capacity to hold at least 4GB and then load it with 2GB so that in the future you can upgrade should you need to. |
Oh k. Thanks for that Firefox. I'll tell it to him.:) |
any 32-bit processor can access up to 4GB of memory (2^32), whether you need that much is still questionable though. This also explains why FAT32 has the 4GB file restriction... limitations on virtual memory, limitations on cache lines, etc... it gets complicated, 2^## is all you need to know, where ## is the bit size of the processor. |
Instead of investing on 3 or 4 gb, I'd go for dual motherboards. I'm pretty sure you will get better results particulary if you are planning to offer forum hosting or something similiar with heavy SQL usage. |
Thanks guys for that, but at the moment the plan is postponed indefintely.:( |
