I am getting a warning that Adobe Flash Player 9 is running slowly because of an error in some script. If it runs further, my PC will be made unresponsive.

I am not watching TV or playing a CD.

In my Add/Remove I see 3 items. They are:
Adobe Flash Player Active x
Adobe Flash Player Plugin
Adobe Shockwave Player 11

I don't play anything. So can I get rid of them ? How do I do that ?

This warning puzzles me. Please advice me. Thank you.

remove all three of them with the add/remove program.. Then you can reinstall the flash player only....I don't know what the add-on is. The active x control is a system check to see if it properly installed and will also start the program if required. It will download itself again when you reinstall the program.

The Flash Player Active X is required by IE 6x, and the other two parts are for the different Flash formats.

Go here and get the Flash uninstall tool which is now required to uninstall Flash Player from either IE 6x or Firefox 2.0:

Thanks wombat, I am slipping in my responses as I am in overload these past few weeks!

Thank your Wombat, Sir, I am in IE 7 ... and acting on advice of Lurkswithin I decided to try and delete all 3 Adobe items.
Went in Add/Remove and uninstalled them one by one.
Did not report back here as I wanted to observe the behaviour of pc before raising hopes.
I am not completely sure, but for my mind, the pages load on faster than before.
While reading a BBC newsletter, when it came to a video play, it said that I cannot play that because I haven't the necessary Adobe Player ... and it offered a link to download the player ... I skipped this.
A 'system enginer' told me that w/o Adobe I cannot read PDF files. He didn't have the patience to explain what PDF files are ... Ignorance is bliss.
I asked a person to send me one or two photos through 'Received Files' and 'zipped files' ... that's how I express them two way of sending pictures ... and photos, I suppose, are called 'files'.
Received both types ... and viewed them on Picture Manager and saved them in My Pictures.

Nevertheless, Add/Remove removed them three, and my pc SEEMS to be faster. Hope Lurkswithin see this post. I am very grateful to you both.

If you have the time please tell me what Adobe does and what would a user w/o Adobe would suffer. If not direct me to a site that would explain the functions of Adobe, preferrably, in layman's language.

Adobe has many products.
One is Acrobat Reader, which at some point you will likely need to read a .pdf formatted document. This is a popular online format for manuals, documents etc. It is a safe program and you can get it free from Adobe here.

The flash player is from Adobe also. You will need this to view videos from many popular website like, youtube, CNN, BBC and many more.

After you download it, and before you install close any open programs and shut down any running programs. After install don't forget to restart any anti-virus or anti-spyware programs.

Adobe have excellent tutorials on the site. Years ago I learnt how use Photoshop properly from the tutorials they have on their site .

Thank you SnM, I have the Foxit Reader that does the same job occupying far less than Adobe Reader.
I think I am beginning to become confident that my laptop is not sluggish anymore after uninstalling all Adobe items for my laptop.
Further I installed Relvo Uninstaller and it got rid of 5 items that were starting up when I open Windows.
Since then the laptop is responding without hesitation.
Kindly test them and inform others too.
