the look is cool, but i've seen this before on Linux without all of the memory usage. I have vista installed and it's a excellent OS, but it seems like they are trying to incorporate all the good aspects of *nix without thinking about it long enough and how it affects the rest of their features.

Default memory

Graphics use memory, and vast amounts of it. No software avoids this.

Seamless image manipulation, shading, etc. require even more memory.

If you are ever privileged to work in a graphics studio or special effects studio you will be surprised at the vast memory arrays. Very scifi feeling.

Vista works and works well and all the needed memory is about...whats 2gb or 4gb go for now days? Really cheap compared to the $100.00 per megabyte people paid for some years ago.

just one more thing...not think long and hard about it?

William....where have you been?

Microsoft took five years, 30 thousand techs and 53 million testers in the beta program. You know anybody else to put that much work into any product?

If Detroit did even a third of that we would be using hydrogen as a fuel source.

sorry i couldn't help but point out this typo.

I was a beta tester for Vista beta 1 and 2. I fully appreciate the OS, but they have kind of shot themselves in the foot with backwards compatability. My point is there is a very nice linux gui which offers basically the same package as far as menus etc on computers with little RAM, and a video card, it uses pure v-card memory as opposed to RAM, as this memory is nearly as fast as RAM itself, thus why the expansion of virtual memory has been researched in video card memory.
