From the specs page it looks like it only comes with a CD drive, and not a DVD drive. You could add an external DVD drive, but it may not play movies. I think the specs are pretty low for playing a movie on that machine, but you could check the minimum specs for an external drive.

For your interest I bought a £35 external DVD player the other day, works very well and included lightscribe. I primarily bought it to reduce the load of the integrated (i.e. expensive to replace) DVD player on my Tosh' laptop. Ya have to give credit to Dell for their modular systems :icon_neutral:

I have always found that searching the manufacturers support website is the best for finding manuals or drivers etc.. Failing that Google is your friend.

If it will not play dvd's it may be it has a cd burner in it. Replace it with a dvd burner.

Thank you wombat, I found out from someone over here that said my laptop can only play CDs and NOT DVDs.
Had it confirmed by going over to Toshiba's site.
By the way, in your advice entry to me you refer to 'burner'. Is that you are meaning a 'player' of cd or dvd ?
I know it is rather a bother to explain things to a slow case like the paddington express of the 1800s.

player = plays cd/dvd
burner = records data onto a cd/dvd

You can normally see if a optical drive (i.e. CD Drive) can play/burn DVD's/CD's by a stamp on the drive itself. It normally says "Compact Disc re-writer" in funky writing, or "DVD Player", or "Multi-writable DVD".

Burner is also referred to as a 'writer', i.e. a CD-writing drive will write/burn data to a CD.

I think the 1800's used to use cylinders made of ceramic or something? Music only though, no data option :sbiggrin:

Ah yes, and I believe one of Edison's cylindrical pieces were smashed by a nervous auction chap on the TV a while back.

Umm, perhaps the best way to remember is that CD/DVD's are played like your Betamax tapes and writen to like your pencil writes on paper?
