trouble system32 file missing


hello Sami-my daughters computer says it is missing file WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\c_1252.nls...is it getting ready to crash? what can I do? is there anything i can downloadoffthe internet because we dont have the windows xp , We bought our lap tops from Dell and they came windows ready?thank you for your time..kim

Microsoft has a detailed page on how to fix this error at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830088 , but it looks like all of their options require the original XP install cd.

Dell should have supplied you with at least a system restore disc - this may not be of much use in this case, but it should mean you could reinstall Windows if you ever needed to.

As for the missing file problem, I will hunt around to see if there are any alternatives to using the original installation CD. Failing that, talk to Dell and ask them if there is a simple way to extract single Windows files from their restore CD (Assuming you have one).

I just want to say thank you to the people who gave me such great suggestions on how to fix my daughters computer.I ended up installing win98 1st due to the fact ...it almost crashed is what my friend who is a tec..then i installed ..yes,the dell disc..THANKS GUYS...kim
