By default, the power button found on the Start Menu in Windows Vista is set to Sleep. This is not that useful for everybody. So how do you change it?
You can try to access it from the advanced power settings panel by going to the Control Panel, then Power Options, then Change Plan Settings, then Change Advanced Power Settings. This path is a little hard to get to.
You can also try this shortcut. Open a command prompt by entering “cmd” on the search bar of the Start menu. Enter in “powercfg.cpl,1”. When the dialogue box appears, scroll down to Power buttons and lid.
You can then change the options on the Power button action and the Start menu power button to Sleep, Hibernate, Shutdown or even nothing at all. And that is all there is to it.
