second hard drive not working i just got a new EIDE hard drive as a second HD, i installed it according to the manual, but when it is hooked up, neither it or the old one will work. I have tried making each one the slave and primary, set the jumpers, everything i could think of. any ideas? |
check that the drive works on it's own. It may be a faulty drive. You may also want to set the first to master and the second to cable select. If your motherborad supports it, also try placing both drives on seperate IDE cables. |
the drive works on its own, at least, i can install XP to it. the motherboard only has one IDE slot. The cable select and master combination didnt work either. |
new cable? try a new 80 pin cable? |
have you tried all combinations? sometimes both drives need to be cable select. also try, using the 2nd drive on the 2nd IDE connection, to ensure that the cable is not damaged. |
