In computing, the CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is an error-checking code, which is used by most of the Windows applications including Microsoft Outlook. Generally used CRCs have finite field GF(2). The finite filed generally has two elements, 1 and 0. In some situations, while opening Microsoft Outlook and accessing data from the PST (Personal Folder) file, you encounter CRC errors. These errors indicate PST file corruption and make it inaccessible. In these cases, you encounter data loss problems and require
PST Repair.
In a practical scenario, after MS Outlook downloads the emails to your system, you might encounter any of the below given messages:
1-“File path\filename.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check.”
In above error message, the path\filename.pst correspond the file name and location of the PST file for instance, D:\mypst.pst.
2-Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
Furthermore, you might not be able to see and access some of the downloaded emails. When you click the Deleted Items folder, you might come across the below error message:
“Error 0×80040116″
This whole behavior of Microsoft Outlook renders all of your mission critical data inaccessible and critical data loss situations. At this point, you need to find out the cause of this problem and go for PST Recovery by sorting it out.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)“
3-when disk checking process completes successfully, close command prompt.
4-Start Microsoft Outlook and if the problem remains, go for the next solution.
Re-create the PST (Personal Folder) file
1-Close Microsoft Outlook and then start MS Windows Explorer.
2-Create backup of PST file (Outlook.pst). The location of PST file might be different, depending upon the version of Microsoft Windows.
3-Rename Outlook.pst as the Old.pst.
4-Use Inbox Repair Tool to repair Old.pst file.
