trouble Reformatting XP Partition on an Vista/XP Dual-boot

Hi everyone, kind of new here so sorry if there's anything wrong with my post.

So my problem is I have my Vista installed on my Drive C: partition and my XP on my D:, dual-boot is fine. Thing is, I've been wanting to reformat just my D: an reinstall XP on it but I have a few problems that I hope someone can point me to somewhere where I can find the answers to:

1. My cd/dvd drive has been broken for a while now, is there a way I can reinstall an OS without having to use it? I have an external cd/dvd drive, don't know if that can help.

2. If I do manage to reformat and reinstall my XP, will my dual-boot not work anymore? Will I have to redo everything? I'm kind of afraid of losing my Vista.

Thanks in advance for those who will help.

Fix your cdr/dvd drive first as you are making the job hard, not only for yourself but for others that help you.

Then come back and ask questions about what you want to do...

Since XP is on D drive then there is a good possibility that you will have to redo everything to get your dual booting to work again after formating and reinstalling.

Had you used a boot manager other than windows' it wouldn't have been a problem then .

If your computer can boot to a USB drive then it can use a USB cdrom to install with. If not then do as Wombat sugested and replace/repair your CDrom!
