Question about laptop router PC cards I have an old Dell Latitude, 4 GB hard drive or something like that, 64 MB ram. I was thinking about buying a PC card adapter so I could go online via my Lynksis router, to do simple things like AIM and email. The card costs around 50 dollars so I was wondering if any of you think that would be worth it, or if I should just invest that money into buying a better laptop. |
You are better off getting a USB wireless adapter, which are lot cheaper and can also be used on your desktop incase you retire your old laptop. USB wireless adapters are in the price range of $9.00 - $20.00 Here is the one which is on sale for $9.00 TRENDnet’s TEW-424UB 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=498649 |
Would that work on my Linksys Wireless-G? That sounds good but its a different company so I don't know if it would work. |
Yes it works, it Supports IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g standards; connects to any IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g wireless network |
Great! Thanks a ton for the link. I'm trying to figure out if my computer will be compatible with it. It's a Windows 98 which is supported by the wireless adapter, but I don't know any of the other requirements. I'm getting very excited about this - 9 dollars is a bargain!!!! :) |
my experience I have tried wireless cards, usb, and even a card with a cat 5 converter. The usb is by far the best. I've also got an acient dell laptop. |
