Problem with display in ubuntu OS I'm having a problem with ubuntu OS Display I'm getting a very much bigger desktop just like when u see using a magnifier in windows i'm not geting what the problem is help me i'm sending an image of it check it out |
Looks like your resolution is set too high, try right clicking on the desktop and look for either resolution or a properties menu (not sure what version of Ubuntu you're running). If you can't find it that way, you can always find the control panel in your "start" menu. Simply find the resolution or display settings and make it larger. My guess is you're currently set at about 800x600 or so, which is pretty large for today's monitors. If you have any further issues, feel free to post again, it is possible you will need a video driver update before the resolution change is possible. |
Only two options Sir actually i tried that too . But It's having only two options are there 1.800x600 (16:9) 2.820x340(9:1)(Not sure) when i put kubuntu then also same resolutions are found when i put other os like noppix, fedora, solaris they are fine the reason for choosing to ubuntu is it's the only OS for me connects to the internet in my home But this high resolutions causing great problems for me please help.. I have the following os cd&dvds with me please suggest which would be easy and good 1.UBUNTU 2.KUBUNTU 3.Solaris 4.Mandriva 5.Knoppix 6.SUSE which would be the best and my modem has a usb connectivity feature it's driver cd contains drivers for redhat is it possible to install usb drivers for ubuntu? Please help Please note that i have correct OS cd and also tested in others pc and there is every thing is fine what could be the problem |
The limited availability of resolutions is due to missing video card drivers. Linux is only packaged with free software and thus does not usually include drivers for your specific video card. If you list your video card make and number, I'm sure we could find you one. Personally I am a fan of Linux Mint for beginners. It is built on top of Ubuntu and includes device driver locators, making it easy to find all the drivers you need. Main Page - Linux Mint |

Is using linux mint will be good for me sir??? I need know advantages I use my pc extremely for personal issues Is it good for me |
Windows and Linux are nothing alike. Installing drivers in Linux can be quite different. Also you cannot use Windows drivers in Linux, you need to find Linux versions of those drivers if you need the device support. Linux is very hands on and requires more work to customize than Windows. If you want an OS that is as easy as Windows, Linux would not be the obvious choice. The Linux Mint website is filled with information on it. I posted the link above, feel free to browse the site and see if it is right for you. |
