trouble "Out of Range"?

Everytime I start up my computer the monitor resonds with a message saying "out of range". I have tried to reboot it many times in normal mode, but it just wont work. I know that the problem has something to do with the screen resolution, but I dont know how to fix it with out a working screen. I have tried to go into safe mode and change it, but it doesnt seem to work. I am kind of desprete to fix this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way, if it helps, my operating system is windows vista.

The range described is in fact the resolution. This error occurs when the software driver allows resolution settings beyond the capability of the monitor's hardware. The issue is not exactly the size of the resolution, but rather the refresh rate needed to keep the resolution crisp and accurate.

Safe mode uses pre-determined video settings which should still work as they are often the very minimum supported by the in use hardware.
If you are able to get into safe mode, try resetting your video adapter to VGA which will then allow you to load your OS properly and assign settings more suitable to your hardware.
Microsoft has a tutorial to guide your through this process: New Monitor Shows Garbled Display or a 'Signal Out of Range' Error Message When Computer Starts

If you are unable to get into safe mode at all, please let us know the make and model of your video card and your monitor. These may help us to bypass the safe mode issue.
