Default no sound

Hello,
I had an accident with my laptop. I had my headphones in the headphone jack in the laptop. My laptop tipped over and pushed the jack into the laptop. Now my headphone will not fit in the jack, and I also have no sound at all coming out of my computer.
Can anyone give me any suggestions what to do.
Thank you

You will have to take it in to get it repaired, laptops are pretty hard to repair at home...

It sounds like what is happening it it has an auto sensing headphone jack. When it detects something plugged into the headphone port it automaticly turns off the laptop speakers. Since it's damaged it still thinks something is plugged in. You could try a USB headset and see if it will overide this setting. A USB or PCMCIA sound card may also work if you can disable the onboard one, in the BIOS or device manager.

What model is the laptop?

You have to go into the BIOS and disable it from there. Upon reboot immediately toggle the Correct Key to enter set up. (DEL or F2 or the most common) When in set up look for the onboard sound and disable it. It should be located somewhere within the peripherals tab...or something similar as each BIOS calls it something else.

If you press F2 (it may be the delete key) on startup it should get you into the BIOS (this a swag here).

You just need to go through the bios screens until you see an entry for sound on, change this to sound off. save and exit.

Unfortunately each individual bios setup tends to be different so I can't be more specific than that. Just browse the bios a few times, without changing anything.
I found this quoted text elsewhere, but it should help you...

Try diabling it in the BIOS.
To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during the POST; while the notebook PC
logo is being displayed.

Setting may also be accessible from the eSettings Manager.
