Question Multiboot: Windows 7 Bootmanager deleted ! A Way to restore XP Boot within XP ?

Hello,

I made a faux pas - I delete my W7RC Installation and the Boot-Folder
(with an old Paragon's Partition Explorer) on my C:\Mini-Startpartition.

It's a Multiboot-System (D:\XPH + E:\XPP) - now minus F:\W7

Is there a Way to FIXBOOT or FIXMBR the C:\ Partition during XP is running?
(Startbutton -> Run -> DISKPART> help ... shows no option)

What Tool is does the FIXMBR Command - like the Bootrec.exe in Vista ?
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista

thank You

I assume that you are using:
XPH = XP Home
XPP = XP Pro

Since they are both XP, you can use an XP cd and run the fixmbr and fixboot commands, this should solve the problem, but you cannot do it while XP is running, your will need to restart the computer with the cd in the drive.

Bootrec in Vista:

Bootrec in XP:
simply type the commands under the recovery console of the XP cd, All commands are flags to BootRec and it is not necessary to type the command BootRex itself. This was changed under Vista.

Hello,

Thank You for the info's - I use SP3, but the XP CD's 4-5 Years old, XP SP1 & SP2 (restoring not tested therefore).

I'm not a Profi - and tought ther is a "hidden insider-option" in XP.

In the meantime i fixed it on running XP SP3 - with a new NTFS formating and the "Make Bootable" Option in
XXClone -> Cool Tools (I had a second Emergency Bootpartition Clone on Partition Z.

kind regards

I'm glad you solved your problem.

For future reference the version of XP does not affect the fixboot and fixmbr functions. They are capable of finding and restoring the boot sectors of any/all Windows operating systems up to and including any version of XP. Vista and the eventual Windows 7 would of course not be included as they use a different boot manager, but the same logic applies to them, they are capable of restoring boot sectors of any Windows from their current release and earlier.
