Ok, so I am trying to install windows 98 on an old IBM 586 and there are a bunch of files that windows cannot find on the windows 98 disk. This happens when I start installing a network driver. They are mostly .dll files but some of them have unidentified file types. Is there any link I could go to to download all these files? Any help or advice would be great!
P.S: WHEN I CLICK ON THE DETAILS BUTTON THIS IS DESCRIBED AS ERROR #2
What are you trying to install the network driver for? Is it just a plain NIC card or a dialup modem or wireless or what! Missing lots of files and some noted as unknown leads me to believe that whatever it is you are trying to install was not made to be installed on windows 98. The unknown files could be something to install to a NTSF file system like for NT or XP operating systems...windows 98 cannot read those types of files and as such will not work on that operating system.
I refurbish lots of older computers and run into driver issues like that all the time... in which you either have to find the correct drivers for windows 98 or do extensive searches to cross reference similar files that will work in windows 98...
