Default Losing my wireless connection

I live in a small house with 2 bedrooms upstairs. Son's room has a desktop, other room has a wireless laptop.

There is a desktop downstairs. This is where the wireless Netgear router is.

Son moves out with his desktop. Since he's left, my laptop keeps losing the wireless connection. He didn't have anything wireless but he did have a cable connecting his desktop and PS3 to the router.

I have done troubleshooting on every aspect of this wirelss network. The desktop downstairs is fine. I've reset the router and the modem I have for Internet. I have set-up the wireless connection repeatedly and the laptop works fine for awhile and then suddenly it loses the connection and when I click on diagnose, my network is missing, but there's another network, not mine, that is showing with almost zero reception.

What the heck is going on? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, go to your network connections:Right click the appropriate connection and go to properties,on the general tab check the box that notifies you about the state of your connection near the bottom. On the Wireless Networks tab take a look at the list of wireless networks half way down (preferred networks) and remove any other networks.

When you select your network, click on the properties button and go to the connection tab and make sure that the box is checked to automatically connect to your network when in range.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Martin

You may be experiencing some interference fro other devices.
Try changing the channel number in the router settings.

Thanks SM ~ I received another reply earlier. I tried what Martin told me. If that doesn't hold, I'll change the channel and let you know. Thanks again.
