Linksys router to built in wireless card... Hi.Well here goes for a first post.I have a Linksys router (54g) and my previous notebook used the Linksys wireless notebook card that came as part of the kit.Set up was easy and securing my network also. I've since changed notebooks.I'm using the built in wireless card but im having trouble securing the network.Any help would be much appreicated. |
Hi, Could you please provide more details on the exact nature of the trouble? What steps have you taken so far? |
Hi Mikeg. I re-installed the router (on the main computer), set the level of security, got the wep key. When i use the notebook it automatically connects which is great. The problem begins when i try and use the settings to secure the network on the notebook.I go into the control panel then network connections, left click on my connection then properties. On the wireless networks tab preferred networks i highlight my connection click properties enter the details as they were when i re-installed the router. But it won't accept the same key i was given.Hope this makes sense. |
What I would do is try not setting any security settings on the rounter for wireless access and see if you can connect with the Laptop without any security in place. Let me know if you are able to connect or not? This may take some time but I am willing to help you and work through it. |

You can leave it that way, but you should be aware of the security risks of leaving your wirless connection without any security. It's difficult determining the exact problem you are having with having more detailed specific details or being there. You mentioned something about Toshiba's Connectivity Doctor, are you setting your laptops wirless settings through this utility? |
Hi.Yep i was using the Connectivity Doctor to connect. After a few coffees this morning i finally worked it out :D .Secure at last! I think the problem lay in using windows to try and configure the settings.Through the Connectivity Doctor was a more straight forward process...in the end:D |
Great to hear that i'ts working now. Sorry I wasen't much of a help but I'm glad you figured it out. :-) |
Glad that you were willing to help that's what matters.Thank you :D |
