The Home Antivirus 2010 application is a variant of the bogus anti-spyware program WinReanimator. It infiltrates systems through Trojans such as Trojan-Downloader.braviax, or views malicious websites.
Once this ‘anti-spyware’ enters a system, it automatically starts upon booting, then creates numerous files. It scans the computer and detects infections which it created in the first place. It redirects the browser to associated malicious sites, and also causes the display of fake pop-ups alerts to coerce the user into purchasing and installing the rogue application. It replicates the look of Windows security notifications and displays fake messages. This message may be among those displayed:
“Privacy alert!
Your system was found to be infected with intercepting
programs. These can log your activity and damage your
privacy. Click here for Home Antivirus 2010 spyware removal.”
Upon its installation, the rogue anti-spyware application will also display s list of supposed infections which only Home Antivirus 2010 can supposedly remove. The program will also block many security websites. The Internet Explorer browser, Windows Task Manager, System Restore function, and ‘Safe Mode’ feature may also cease to function properly.
