How to de partition in WindowXp My computer has Window Xp installed. I had partitioned my computer into drive C and D. Now I want it to combine into just drive C. How can I do that? |
As far as I am concerned the BEST way is to do a complete re installation of the operating system using the original installation disc and remove the unwanted partition at that time. Others in here will argue about using partition magic or other partitioning software. While these programs can do this, it is a toss up (50/50 chance) as to whether it destroys some critical operating system component or not and then you will be forced into re-formatting / re-installation Resizing the drive from larger to smaller is a different thing all together and is done relatively safe. When you make it larger by combining partitions is when the trouble starts. If you have a decent sized drive.... I suggest that you format the other partition to clean it up. Then make that a storage partition by moving the MY documents folder to that partition. Then all your personal files will be separated in case of operating system failure. This also clears up space on "C" drive. |
Partition Removal Hi Clamson How to use Disk Management to configure basic disks in Windows XP Go to this link and scroll down to "How to Use Disk Management" Follow its instructions to Start, Run, Type, Compmgmt.msc. click OK, A window will open, ckick on "Disk Mansgement" All your hard disk drives etc will be listed. Make sure you don't have ANYTHING OF VALUE ON THE PARTITION TO BE REMOVED. just right click on the partition of the disk you want to remove, scroll down to Delete and click. It is that simple! You can make or add partitions on any unoccupied spaed. It list all the spaces etc. I just partitioned My new 640 g hd into 4 primary units. 4 primary units is all it will allow on a hard drive. There can be an extention to the partation if desired and space available. Good luck. Gen. D |
