Default Help im using vista on an acer5315

hi there hope u can help, im using vista on an acer5315 lappy and about a week ago it intermittently shut down every day or so
Just a quick flash of BSOD and straight to reboot until the other day it wouldnt boot in normal mode so I booted in safe mode
So i eventually got sick of this and investigated, deleted a few progs(more or less unused ones)and updated and ran my antivurus(avast home) and it got stuck-like just stalled-in sys32

I suspected either a virus or a corupted reg or something(im no expert)

i ran a couple of anti spywares and they seemed to get stuck in same spot

the particular file was the NTIO404.SYS one

heres alist of sys 32

There is a strong possibility that you have been infected by a root kit foob which attaches to this system and creates some new registry keys and then denies you permissions to change or delete them.

I would go ahead and reformat and reinstall after saving what data files you can .

if i could bend ur ear a little further thanks,
1, can running in safe mode for an extended period do any permanent physical damage to drives or ram or anything?
2, whats ur opinion of win 7?

1) to be honest I really don't know this answer. I would assume that no that it would not as all safe mode does is stops a lot of the eye candy (non essential components) and installed applications from loading at start up The core components run ok

I have been running windows 7 on a test machine for a few months and really like the system. There are still a couple of glitches that pop up from time to time. Overall it is fairly stable and fast.
