dual boot with fedora and vista anybody to overcome the MBR i cant able to make dual boot vista and fedora both are siting in MBR its reseting which OS is installing newer |
I have to ask a obvious question here, are you installing Vista and Fedora on separate partitions or hard drives? Install Vista first then Fedora as well. Grub or Lilo are usually very good at booting between the multiple operating systems. I do not have any experience of dual booting Vista and a Linux distro, but have been successful with XP and Linux on numerous occasions... |
They have to be installed on different drives or partitions....and you have to have a boot manager to control the boot sequencing as Vista ...like XP..will not see the linux partiton at all Either grub or lilo will work just fine as wombat mentioned above! |
i m installing linux after vista installed, both are seperate partition of SATA drive and my DVD drive also SATA. Linux with WinXP is not a prob, even i m having dual boot with vista and XP. i can install ubuntu well with vista but i cant with fedora both are trying to occupy the MBR so which is installing later that is overwriting pervious one. |
I have always maintained that when someone is trying multi boot options of more than 2 operating systems then they should rely on a quality boot manager to do the work of protecting the MBR. Windows boot manager just is plain garbage and will not work properly when multi-booting operating systems as it is locked to only being able to handle 4 partitions. I personally use BootIt NG Boot Manager, Partition Manager, and Drive Image Utility - BootIt Next Generation as it will handle as many partitions as you want or need and manage all the MBRs so that they maintain their own integrity.....meaning that the MBR is hidden from each operating sytem so there is no need of overwriting it! I supplied a link to a free multi boot manager that has just come about and seems to be getting some good reviews...but I have yet to try it myself....But I am familar with some of the designers and trust their work! http://www.syschat.com/dual-booting-...oach-3197.html |
