Default Dual Boot Vista and XP- Awgini.dll no load

Hello and thanks for the help. I have Vista Business -64 on C: and XP SP2-32 bit on E: same sata hard drive. I have setup dual boot using Vista Boot Pro but still have an issue. When I select XP on the boot pick, XP begins booting and gets to just before the welcome screen and displays a message:

C:\windows\system32\awgini.dll failed to load. Now this file existes in the XP e:\windows\system32.

Can you help me fix this. Can't boot into XP.

Hi William,
Im new to this Syschat.. Im trying to find a different solution to partitioning my laptop or downloading a virtual pc and I might have found the answer with your recommendation. I have a hp pavilion dv6000 laptop running windows vista home premium. I want to have XP on my laptop as well to run WAMP for a web application Im doing for my Final Year Project. I need XP because the PHP side of WAMP does not work properly if at all on vista.
I see though that you say you need to have the vista cds and xp cd but I didnt get any vista cds when I bought my laptop.
I do have an XP installation cd with a serial number.
Im new to this sort of thing and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks,
Yvonne

Default istalling XP (FULL) issues

Hello,
Thank you so much for writing this great tutorial. I got stuck! I have an ACER 3810T with Windows 64 bit installed on a 500gb hard drive. I successfully partitioned my hard drive, c:450gb, e:50gb. I then put in the XP (full version) installation disk and click on [install Windows XP]. It gives me the following error "Setup cannot continue because the version of windows on your computer is newer that the version on the CD". I would like to install the xp on the e drive like in your tutorial.
Am i doing the installation incorrectly? do i need a different version of xp?
any suggestions?
thanks so much,
amy

You probably clicked on Install while your current Windows was active.

If you boot from the CD, things should work out fine.

Default Thank you

First off, as the title says, thank you William.

I had some problems regarding installing XP Pro (Upgrade Version Disk - no service packs included) with Vista 64 bit installed. When I would reboot after creating a partiton with XP disk in CD/DVD, the partition would not be recognized or be recognized but unknown. After scouring the threads I found the solution.

I used the free nLite "Slipstreaming" progam metioned in these threads and used that to create a bootable ISO with XP SP3. Problem solved and partion was recognized and everything worked just fine.

I still had to swap my original Windows 98 full version CD in when directed and as a caution before starting, have a large enough media device to hold your setup OS and any Service Pack you may need. I used a flash drive and the DVD burner off my laptop to create the bootable disk.

My problem in a nutshell was that I was trying to install an original version of XP on a pretty new comp.

I've always used EasyBCD for XP dual (or triple) boots with Vista or Windows 7. Worked every time. Haven't tried 64-bit OS's though, but I see no reason why they would create a problem with EasyBCD.

Your slipstreamed CD solution is attractive because it will simplify things if you ever have to re-install later on.

All brand new motherboards support Windows XP, even Windows 2000 for that matter. Don't forget that Microsoft are supporting XP till the year 2014. You can always find the appropriate drivers, if not on your pc Assembler's site, at least on the device brand's site.

WW,

Thanks for your original post that explains how to dual-boot Vista and XP. I followed the instructions on pp. 3 and 4 and my system now dual-boots with no problems! If you have any other hints that you can share, please do. Your instructions saved the day for me.
