Disappearing Drive Hello All, I've had this problem for awhile, but here goes. I have an HP computer its a few years old. I have two optical drives on it one internal and one USB external. For some reason the external drive sometimes disappears from the computer. I can't find it anywhere then a few days later it pops back up. I have tried replacing the cables and checked to power and still the problem continues. I also tried reinstalled the system and sometimes it works. If anyone has any help it would be appreciated. maybe try using the back usb ports? the front usb ports are usually just wired extensions to the internal usb port that is near the circuits of the back usb ports. maybe there is a fluctuation of power happening in the current usb port. also, try using the a dual usb cord - one end is for data transfer, and the other is for drawing backup power http://i55.tinypic.com/3452a8g.jpg |
I'm already using the back USB ports. I'm going to have to find a double USB port, its not going to be easy where I live. Thanks RalphyG |
