cpu fan comes on but nothing else please help me the cpu fan comes on but nothing else happens |
Power Supply Hello, do any other lights come on? For example, you CD/DVD ROM lights, or power LEDs on the front of your PC. If you can borrow another PSU from someone, use it to replace yours and see if it solves the problem. If it does, then you'll need a new power supply unit. Regards Martin |
yes power lights on front and power supply going, cpu fan going.but not booting up |
Power Supply Fault Can you here your hard drive spinning? And do you know how to use a voltmeter? It would be very helpful if you could find another power supply unit to use, this would answer the big question of wether it is you PSU that is faulty and not supplying your PC with enough power to run properly. There is another way which might work if you don't know how to use a voltmeter, try disconnecting all of your drives except for the HDD and then see if it boots up. If it is the PSU then this can affect the amount of power that it can supply, and your PC will try to use more power than the can be supplied. Regards Martin |
Hi Everyone I had the same problem with my PC, you know it is nothing else besides the Motherboard . The Processor Fan May Spin but the BIOS isn't Activated , so I sugest getting a new board and processor if you can. Then everything should be fine. |
No offense, but the opinion of a member who's name is Software_Sales and is encouraging the purchase of 2 new pieces of hardware without actually determining the problem first isn't exactly held very high to me. Quote:

CPU Fan comes on but nothing else Dear William Now you are being unreasonable, I have had the same problem last year and I had to buy a new board and CPU because the Technicle people at my place said that it was the board. If you unplug everything and get no luck , then it is the board . So if you think it's expensive, then I think you must go onto the web and see how much it costs. I spent over R 1500.00 just repairing the board and CPU I also have 5 years exprience in computing So if you have any comment Please Mail me personally Regards Roger Stace Software Sales |
a new processor and perhaps new motherboard may be the problem. I've built enough computers in my time that i have run across duds many times, but it is rash to suggest this before ensuring this is the problem. We do not wish to encourage our members to start buying hardware they do not need. I had this exact problem occur and by doing this procedure, i was able to determine it was my floppy drive causing a short and stopping the comptuer from booting... i think $10 for a floppy is much better than buying a new mobo and proc... don't you? Also: please do not post 2-3 words per line, it lengthens the thread for no reason. I do not know what 5 years experience means to you, but i have been programming and building computers for much longer than that. |
What if it was the cable or HDD cable or something like that , it all depends. What if the Power cable is touching the board ? |
Software Sales: "What if it was the cable or HDD cable or something like that , it all depends. What if the Power cable is touching the board ?" You cannot even begin to give advice if you have to ask "what if?" You should have asked the poster everything possible before giving advice. Which is what William is saying to you. Before you give any kind of advice in future, make sure that you have enough information to gain probable cause and best solution. I could say "it's definitely your whole PC, best go and buy a new one" But one: its not true and two: I don't have all the relevant information. And as William says five years in computers isn't a great deal. |
Hello gtaz, did you manage to borrow another PSU and test it in your board? Regards Martin |
