Question Connecting 2 comp(different os) to 1 dsl modem

Ok, I have a question. I saw a thread with something about this but here goes anyway. I have 1 Westell 6100 dsl modem. My service is through Verizon. I have 1 pc with a Linux ubuntu 7:10 Gutsy Gibbon OS (which took me over 3 hrs talk time with Verizon to get it config....."We don't support Linux" is what they first said when I called support A neighbor is giving me an "old, small" pc with a Windows OS (not sure which edition) how would I go about getting both of them on the internet with just the 1 modem (and 1 acct) ??? Do I need a router? What kind? I also need to know about any cables or anything else I may need. Can you help???
Thanks,
leelee

A router would be the easiest way to share the connection. Also a reouter is a good firewall. If you don't want to connect any wireless devices you can get a decent router for around $40 (more with wireless). I usually recommend Linksys brand. They make reliable equiptment and are typicaly one of the easiest to set up. But just about any brand would work.

You would then need one Ethernet (network) cable for each PC. Long enough to reach from the router to the PC.
