Question Computer Freeze Ups

Why does my computer keep freezing up? It freezes up sometimes when I have two or three things open. It immediately freezes up if I try to insert an attachment to an e-mail or if I try to use my floppy disk drive.

Default possibility

At one time I had freeze-up problems. I did two things. One- I used Registry Mechanic (the free version). The second-- I solely use Firefox.
Happy Trails

you can also check the amount of free memory on your hard drive and amount of RAM both of these can affect your performance.
Also it can be a sign of a corrupted dim or RAM, although random restarts are a more common issue, freezing can occur when a bit or more are lost or transformed and the OS has no idea what to do.

trouble Freeze ups

My computer has been freezing up periodically. Before it does this it has a beeping that I can hear from the hard drive. I have reformatted my computer 4 times in the past 3 months because it starts like that and in a few weeks it wont even boot. What is wrong and what can I do.

the beeping is not actually coming from your hard drive, it cannot do that.

The problem, if it continually does this could be either a program you are using is installing viruses or spyware at a phenominal rate (eg: limewire, bearshare, etc) or it is a hardware issue, like your RAM or hard drive. If the memory changes some bits or corrupts some data it is not readable to the software and hangs the computer. Random restarts are usually the effect of RAM issues, but freezing can be the first step.

So what should I do, I have tried to run scandisk and it freezes, is there any other type of program or link I can use. I don't have limewire on my computer anymore since I rebooted and I am running AOL Active Shield for my antivirus

well there's your first problem...dont use search engines as your anitvirus..such as yahoo, aol, etc.. there a joke. use an oem like norton or i prefer avg anti-virus, it doesnt slow your comp. down and works great!! and its FREE. second.. you need to get a spyware protection, sounds to me you also have spyware on your system. try downloaded adawareSE and spybot, they are also FREE. try running theses programs and see what happens..

I downloaded the programs you suggested and I got a error message that said something to the effect of dumping memory to disk and froze at 40%. I had to rerun scandisk and it will work for a short time and start the beeping again. Is my hard drive corrupted and do i have to replace it? I already reformatted it several times and am still coming up with the same problem??
