can i upgrade my os to xp? my old pc has a pentium 2 processor...and it runs with windows 98...can i still upgrade it to windows xp?.. |
What are other specs of that PC? like RAM, HD space etc.. Windows XP can be installed on low system requirements Minimum requirements are: 233 MHz CPU 128 MB of RAM 1.5 GB of available hard disk space * Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor CD-ROM or DVD drive You can find out more details here |
In my opinion, i say it is possible. When u buy the XP CD, on it u will see the system requirements for which u should check and see, if all of it matches ur specs. |
It is most likely possible, As Sami listed, anything above those marks will run XP just fine, i have run XP on a P# 500MHz and it runs without a hitch :) If the drive is small you may wish to uninstall some of the optional accesories afterwards. |
thank you guys...i really appreciate your input...now my problem is that i'm not sure about the spes of my old computer...and i'm not sure the cd rom is still working...the last time i tried to use it, just couldn't read anything... |
XP has a floppy installation (6 floppies are required) you can read on it on the Microsoft Website |
Still I wouldn't advice to run XP on that computer, since it will probably run too slow. Either stay with 98 or upgrade your computer. |
XP could run ok on such a system, but you would have to do without some of the added features of XP. It can be optimized to save processor power and memory, with a couple clicks. right-click my computer, properties select, advanced, click settings under performance, in the new dialog, choose "Adjust for best Performance" It removes things like the left pane preview, and search animations. |
