Black Screen on XP with dual boot
 

Hello All
I am trying to set up a XP/Vista dual boot on a Dell Vostro 220s PC
The boot menu starts and I select 'Windows Vista' and Vista works fine.
If I select 'Earlier windows version', the Windows XP startup screen appears but then I get a black screen with a large arrow as a cursor and nothing else.
I can move the cursor with the mouse.

What have I done wrong?
