Best Antivirus Software? I have used all kinds of antivirus software, Presently I prefer AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. What is your favorite? |
I too have experimented with all kinds of anti-virus software but for me it would be a tie between Avast and AVG. They basically seem to have same features. Although I've used (installed on many computers in an organization) AVG the most and many people whom I talk to also prefer AVG a lot so I guess AVG would probably win my vote it I would only have to pick one. Although it came in 10th place when PC World rated Anti viruses I still think it is pretty good. |
I have to say Norton, I've had it for a year or more now and there hasn't been a single virus on my PC since. The only annoying bit is that the antivirus scan takes quite a while to complete. |
I love AVG, and will always use it.:) |
I'm not usually one to pay for things as vital as AV, it's kinda like the water for the internet, you can go a while with out it. but eventually you have to have it. I've use many services, as far as free goes AVG is the best, but for the best AV overall my vote is Norton. Constant updates, reliable help, and many add-ons such as password protection and firewall. :D |

but i love mcafee,pcillin |
I must say None of the above NOD32 by Eset is far and above the best of the best. Yes I agree AVG is good as well as Avast. PC-Cillin used to be good but now it is garbage. I have been playing with the New McAfee 2007 which is pretty decent and also Panda 2007 is pretty good as well. NAV 07 is once again a flaming pile of trash much like their software since 2004. BitDefender and Sophos are really good too. I have one PC that I infect with viruses and I use different AV products and see which one can remove certain new viruses such as Ruin and whatnot. MIT does a virus research project every year or maybe a couple times a year now that I think about it and for the past 7 years they have ranked NOD32 at the top of the list with Sophos right behind it. |
I am familiar with all this anti virus software.I prefer Norton anti virus. |
I use AVG and McAfee, both are good. NOD32 would be my next choice. Norton works well but it has the greatest performance hit of any of the programs I've used. |
NOD32 The Best Antivirus!!! Iused lot of anti-viruses in past. And in my opinion the best is NOD32 Antivirus!!! The AVG Antivirus Free Edition is very good anti-virus!!Norton and McAfee are very 'heavy' programs and slow down much your computer!!:icon_mrgreen: |
NOD32 should be on the list I agree with some of the other posters - NOD32 takes far less from the system than does Norton. Since switching from Norton and its constant scanning and making my computers grind to a standstill, I have not looked back. Doing some research at the time NOD32 seemed to get the best overall reviews - so it was a no-brainer really. Sure there are free AV software packages but this is one area where it is probably worth spending the bucks to have someone constantly on the case! Eset (the makers of NOD32) have just realeased a new version. They have changed some of their "quirky" menus - they have made it look more like the sort of thing that Norton users expect. They have also included a full protection suite with spyware and personal firewall. Having just downgraded a Vista pc to XP I needed to install an AV package as the raw XP install doesn't have it. NOD32 was my obivious choice as I already had a multi machine 2 year licence for it. The fact that Norton is pre-installed on most new PCs is a master stroke of marketing - Symantec certainly don't make it easy to un-install. Initial setup of a Vista pc with Norton on the preload package (especially on a notebook that you picked up for $399.99 [Vista Basic and 512M RAM]) - is particularly painfull. Norton and Windows are constantly fighting in their efforts to update themselves. Norton sometimes finishes first and wants to re-boot. This is often in the middle of Windows downloading updates! How is the novice user expected to know NOT to reoot at this time and let Windows Vista finish downloading updates and install them? It is little wonder that Vista gets a bad rap when Norton (possibly) screws up the initial installation? The last PC that I configured had over 30 updates to Vista (we must be getting close to SP1 - the new year I hear). Not letting Vista fully update itself (or worse allowing Norton to interrupt it) is crucial to obtaining its potential performance. The painful setup of a new pc with Norton and Windows updates is so slow - even on computers with fast processors and lots of RAM - is the first thing that most users experience. No wonder they want to downgrade to XP! |
I love McAfee... I especially love the "Quick Clean" feature.... |
Nod32 is my AV of choice, it was a refreshing change after the Norton AV bloatware I had previously been using. A 64 bit version is available as well for those of you running XP Pro x64. It is very easy to set up maximum protection for the new user, using Blackspears tutorial from the official Nod32 forum... EAV 3.0 Tutorial - 15 Jan 2008 - Wilders Security Forums |
Avg I must say, AVG is pretty cool, I use it on all 30 computer at work (lol im the tech geek there) and we have had 0 viruses since. |

Which is the best..? Node32 is the best.. but it's not cheap... I'm running the free BitDefender AVS, and the free Sunbelt FW, through a hard-wired router... It keeps the floater hackers out, but it isn't solid for surfing super-bad web-sites... I just don't use the PC to surf anymore... I use the old iMac for opening all suspect emails, and for surfing dangerous places... When I can afford it, I'm considering buying the full versions of BitDefender and Sunbelt... Maybe Node32..? not sure yet... Sunbelt has a nice feature with which you can totally block IE and other things from the Net, on a new OS install... The free BitDefender doesn't seem to catch bugs entering... It's basically just a scanner/cleaner... Bottom line is.. You are your best security... If you want to be up on all the new stuff that interests you, then run "google alerts" for everything you like... Remember to place quotes around every multi-word alert... Google alerts is the safest way to surf the Internet war zone... |
I would have said PC tools but it wasn't on the list so my 2nd best was AVG, although I use mcafee I cant choose it afetr it attacked my pc and single handedly crashed after facing a little bit of malware that took control of mcafee so i installed PC tools and it solved the issue. Now you could say i am over cautious about what mcafee does on my pc especially on glitcha, crasha or better known as ... or MS VISTA |
I think AVG free works well, and the price is right :icon_wink: |
Avast antivirus is the best! i have been using all of the above antivrus but the best is avast. AVG is ok but very heavy when scanning. |
Kaspersky is the best... I have been using it for about 4 years. No issues at all. |
I am using AVG on my loptop and Nortor on my desktop. i've been using it for years and i must say that i really like them a lot. That is why i also suggest it to my friends. |
I have Avast and Kaspersky on my pc's. I also used to have norton but it was too heavy |
I personally preferr Kaspersky my second choice is eset nod32 3rd AVG one i would never use is norton becuase it gets to many false postives |
Trend Titanium Pro I am still holding on to Trend AV. The newest and easiest version of Trend's old PC-cillin is Titanium Pro...a breeze to install and works in the back ground without need for any further interference by the user...any interference...save for setup parameters. But, it costs a few shekles! If there are any drawbacks to using Trend products, it is that they do not like play nice in the sand box with others. It's it, or nothing! |
Avast anti virus is best for me. I have avast on my laptop and desktop PC. It’s really working fine. I won’t get too many memory functions to work. |
the best? 1. NOD32 (fast and "maybe" the best in everything) 2. AVG Security (fast and very good anti...) 3. Norton ... (could be the best, but NOD32 have better written code) |
I have purchased Kaspersky Internet Security and in my opinion its the best out there.I have tried all other too, bit those are not quite effective except Bit Defender. That is pretty effetive too. |
i am currently using nortion antivirus. |
i am using at home AVG and at officie NOD32. both are working quiet well. |
My favorite is Avast, because it has best security futures and totally free service. |
I would like to add one more antivirus that is Immunet. It is also one of the good antivirus software.. |
I think Avast if the best antivirus software. |
I have used Norton, AVG, Avast and Kaspersky. Out of all of these Kaspersky is the best anti-virus software in my opinion. |
I have used Avast, AVG, Kaspersky and Norton anti-virus softwares. But Kaspersky is better compared to other software. |
