Accessing old hard drive data
 

What type of software should I use to gain access to an old hard drive I have.
The message "Word cannot open the document.....user doesn't have access privileges" This is the hard drive from a previous machine that I forgot to back up properly before I moved on. Help!!

The software your trying to open the file with and the software that was used to create the file?

I have connected to the old drive via a USB connection. My new PC recognizes the drive and will display all files and folders it just won't let me open any of them

Can you copy a file, move it over to your pc and then access the file?

Are you getting any message telling you why you can't open it?

download a linux live cd

I like backtrack 5 but ubuntu is most popular

you can view all files without needing a password and can do as you like with them

can also be booted from a usb device

you can also clone the whole drive using a partition manager
