I've voltage modded my GeForce 7800 GTX and the
memories got a lot of voltage, and something died.
I have been told, that I'd killed a voltage adjust
chip. If it might be my problem, I'd like to ask,
which chip should I check, or replace?

My other problem is, I unfortunetaly removed two
of the SMD capacitors from my VGA card. One of
them is the Q515, the other one is placed left
from the upper side of the C569 capacitor.

I have no warranty, that's why I try to solve it myself.

This is an Albatron GeForce 7800 GTX video card.

I didn't find the entire guide, but I made it by the pictures, I've posted
I think I did the solvering correctly. I think the problem was, that I had

regular potentiometer instead of helical potentiometer, so when I turned it a

little bit, something got a lot of voltages.
Now, I try to find out, what was the part, which got this high voltage - it

colud be some voltage-regulator, because the card started up 2-3 times, but

the voltage of the memory fluctuated, and later it disappeard.
I cannot make screenshots, because the vga don't work at all. Also I cannot

post any pictures from my card, because I dont have a digital camera.

I solvered a 100kOhm potentiometer as it showed in the picture.

One clip to the left side of the c569 smd, the other clip to the zinc dot at

the Q515 mark.

I also solvered an other potentiometer for the gpu voltmod by the next

picture:

The only difference is, I used a regular potentiometer instead of a helical

one, just like above - but it isn't count, I had no chance to adjust the

voltage of the gpu, because I killed my card with the other potentiometer

before I could do this.

You have a lot more guts than me. I would have to be extremely confident in my soldering abilities to even consider doing something like that. What exactly is happening when you boot up with the card? Do you get the post screen on boot or is it just completely dead? Is the fan coming on the card at all?

Also why did you remove the SMD capacitors from your VGA card? Were you trying to place them on the 7800? I am a little bit confused. My understanding, though, is that you have two video cards that are basically not working right now. Is this correct?

At the first 5-6 start when my pc was booting, I watched the voltage, and it fluctated for about a 10 seconds, and than it was disappeared. For this time there was picture on the screen, after that, only darkness. Later, when I tried to start my pc, there were only colored squares. Of coures, the cooling was in it's place, working

For the voltmod I had to solder a wire to the C569 SMD capacitor, but when I removed the wire, the tin went to the capacitor around it, because I used too much. When I tried to clean it up, I accidentally removed the capacitors. I didn't try to use my vga since than.

Sorry we couldnt help you more. You should try to send it in to the manufacturer if it is still under waranty.
