Default Will Bios upgrade reset Bios password?

Hi All I have a compaq presario 2100 laptop that I bought used, I have access to windows and everything works fine, but I just can not get into bios setup (F2 during boot).
The guy I bought it from didnt set it up and has little computer knowledge, his son must has mistakenly put it.
I know laptop bios has no tools and is almost useless but I just feel better having access to it. and in case I upgraded the BIOS I didnt wanna be stuck outside of windows.
