Hello, unfortunately you are going to need access to the installation CD or the 6 floppy start up disks (
Download details: Windows XP Home Edition Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install ) then you should be able to access the recovery console.
When it goes to the recovery console you may need to type in your password.
Once you have accessed the recovery console type bootcfg /rebuild and press enter.
When asked to add the installation to the boot list, press Y.
The load identifier will be the name of your operating system e.g. 'Windows XP Professional'.
Then you will be asked to enter the OS load options, leave this blank and press enter.
Restart your computer and select the first entry, you should be able to start windows normally.
If all goes well, and after you have started windows, go to Start>Run> and type msconfig and press enter. Click on the boot.ini tab and delete the old entry.
Apply any changes if necessary and close down 'msconfig'.
