Unhappy worm/virus left an indelible image

We have a Dell computer at my work that got some sort of worm or virus many months ago that left an image on the desktop that can't be removed. It started out as a small image of the MSN logo and then appeared larger and pixelated, I'd say it covers 1/3 of the screen. Changing the desktop background doesn't affect it. It always appears layered over what ever we choose for the background. When we've had a tech person over they don't seem to have a solution and it's, annoying. Any suggestions?
