Having a drive from one machine work in another is very unlikely to work. The hardware between the 2 computers is very different and thus the drivers used to control that hardware is too. Assuming the OS does work on the new machine (I am having a hard time understanding what you said happened).
What makes you think the BIOS is corrupt? This is a very rare thing to occur unless you were changing all the settings without being careful as to what you were changing. A more likely event is that the OS update caused the drivers to not work and thus the OS will not load. Another likely outcome is a malfunctioning piece of hardware.
Try loading the computer using a Windows CD, if that works, it is NOT the BIOS.
