Default installing xp onto Vista

I am new to booting. I purchased xp professional in a shop. I partitioned to make space for xp. When I put CD in drive. I got to welcome and install xp. I could not get any further but got this message: "This programmed is blocked due to compatibility issues. I was referred to Microsoft but this did not help. The message also said: "Setup cannot continue because version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD. I do not want to tamper with Vista. I want Vista and XP side by side. How do I get over this problem? I cannot download free drivers for xp, although I have downloaded the driver detective. My computer is a laptop Acer Travelmate 4310, Processor 3500+1.8ghz. I have Vista Home Basic with 32 -bite system, Mobile AMD Sempron (tm). Please help!

James
