Mirror imaging is a back-up configuration and is an exact copy of the system at the time of when the image was done. It should never be stored on the same disc drive that it was mirrored from because if the drive is (goes) bad then the back-up is unaccessable as well as the operating system itself.
You cannot use the mirrored image to restart a dead drive. The mirrored image replaces the operating system's partition or drive on a new drive and needs to be started using the same program that created the back-up image.
This is done by the program creating a restore feature either on the source drive's operating sytem or on a CD or floppy drive. You or your friend must know what the program was that created the image and use it to create a restore function
