another way couple of ways is to open system properties by pressing the "windows Logo" Key and the "pause/break" key at the same time and reading what it says that you have for ram.

or better yet:
start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system information and scroll down to memory...it will show installed memory and free memory as well!
